"Mommy's" Pinto Beans

These are called "mommy's beans" at our house, because no one makes them quite like Mommy!

2 cups dry pinto beans
5-6 cups distilled water
5 whole fresh garlic cloves
1 Tbsp Salt
1 tsp Cumin
1/2 tsp crushed red chiles

Put all ingredients into a crock pot and stir.  Cook on high for 6 hours, stirring occasionally if possible.

*Tips*
  • You can use the same recipe for black beans also.
  • You may prefer more/less salt or more/less chiles.
  • Adjust the recipe for your tastes.
  • If you don’t prepare and have 6 hours, you can cook them on a stove top, keeping the pot boiling and it will take about 1 1/2 hours, you will need to add more water as they continue to cook.
